Special Olympics
Overview
The Special Olympics program is a long-standing and impactful Knights of Columbus initiative that supports individuals with intellectual disabilities through athletic competition, community engagement, and financial assistance. Councils play a vital role by fundraising, volunteering, and promoting inclusion within their communities.
In Wisconsin, the program is centered on supporting Special Olympics Wisconsin and helping send Team Wisconsin to the Special Olympics USA Games. These games provide athletes with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to compete at a national level while building confidence, friendships, and life skills.

Wisconsin State Fundraising Goal
The Wisconsin State Council has set a $150,000 fundraising goal for the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games. These funds help send Team Wisconsin—including athletes, unified partners, coaches, and staff—to compete at this national, week-long event.
Why It Matters:
- Covers travel, training, uniforms, meals, and event expenses
- Provides athletes with a once-in-a-lifetime experience
- Demonstrates the Knights’ commitment to inclusion and community support
Council Contribution:
- Only $1.09 per member, per year, over four years
- All donations must be made through the Knights of Columbus Charity Inc. Account (501(c)(3))
- Even small contributions help Wisconsin reach the statewide goal and make a real impact
By working together, every council can help Team Wisconsin succeed and ensure these athletes have the support they deserve.
Volunteer Opportunities – Get Involved
Councils are strongly encouraged to go beyond fundraising and experience the impact of Special Olympics firsthand by volunteering at local and state events. Volunteering is a meaningful way to support athletes, build community connections, and live out the Knights’ mission of charity and unity.
